U.S.S. Kidd, DD661 | The U.S.S. Kidd is a Fletcher class destroyer. This is the one you have been reading about in the modeling magazines. Master model builder Bob Steinbrunn used this kit as the basis for creating his masterpiece that won absolutely everything (Best In Show, US Navy Award, and Best Kit Built) at the 2000 Mariner’s Museum competition. There were 175 Fletchers built during WWII. The Kidd is preserved as a museum ship in Baton Rouge, LA and is typical of the class, carrying every weapon ever put onboard a Fletcher during the war.
The U.S.S. Kidd is a powerful and impressive ship that has a rich history and has served the United States Navy with honor and distinction. Named after Rear Admiral Isaac C. Kidd, who was killed in action during the attack on Pearl Harbor, this ship is a testament to his bravery and sacrifice. Commissioned in 1981, the U.S.S. Kidd is a guided missile destroyer that has played a crucial role in various military operations, including the Gulf War and Operation Enduring Freedom. With a length of 563 feet and a displacement of over 9,000 tons, this ship is a force to be reckoned with.
This U.S.S. Kidd Model kit is an exciting and rewarding project for advanced modelers. It is important to note that some pictured items may have been built with optional items not included as part of standard kits, such as pedestals, bases, cases, paint, etc. If there are any questions about the contents of a particular kit, please contact Bluejacket.
