About the Charles P Notman

The sailing ship Charles P Notman was a majestic vessel that dominated the seas in the late 19th century. Built in 1876 by the renowned shipyard of John Roach & Sons in Chester, Pennsylvania, this clipper ship was a true masterpiece of naval engineering. It was named after the famous American painter, Charles P. Notman, who was known for his stunning maritime paintings. The ship was designed to transport goods, particularly wool and tea, between the United States and China. With its sleek design and impressive size, it quickly became a favorite among captains and sailors alike.

The Charles P Notman was a three-masted ship, with a length of 237 feet and a displacement of 1,800 tons. Its hull was made of sturdy American oak, reinforced with iron frames, making it able to withstand the rough conditions of the open ocean. The ship had a total of 37 sails, which were made of the finest canvas and were expertly rigged to catch the winds and propel the ship forward at incredible speeds. Its towering masts stood at 150 feet, and with the addition of its topgallant and royal yards, the ship reached a height of over 200 feet, making it an impressive sight to behold.
