Jefferson Davis | Baltimore clipper, true plank-on-frame. Jefferson Davis was one of the most famous of the swift patrol vessels, used both off our Atlantic and Pacific coasts. She is one of the Campbell class of 14 revenue cutters. This class has been described as being the “ultimate Baltimore clipper,” square topsail schooners.
The Jefferson Davis wooden ship was a majestic vessel that represented the height of maritime engineering during the mid-19th century. Built in 1865, the ship was named after the Confederate President, Jefferson Davis, and was originally intended to be a warship for the Confederate Navy. However, the ship was never used in battle as the Civil War came to an end before it was completed. Instead, it was repurposed as a merchant ship and became known as a reliable and efficient mode of transportation for goods and passengers.
The Jefferson Davis is a model kit for the experienced modeler. The rugged 1/4″ basswood frames are closely spaced as in actual ship construction, allowing plenty of bearing surface for a smooth planking job. The frames are pre-beveled to ensure easy clamping and a fair lay to the planking. Most importantly, Jefferson Davis is a beautiful, impressive model. It is important to note that some pictured items may have been built with optional items not included as part of standard kits, such as pedestals, bases, cases, paint, etc. If there are any questions about the contents of a particular kit, please contact Bluejacket.
