Creating Historic Model Ship Kits Since 1905

A ship model is a valuable work of art, deserving of care and protection. Bluejacket is proud to provide fine custom built cases and “case-kits” that will both complement and protect your model.

All of our cases are provided with native American cherry bases. The frames are supplied in your choice of either cherry or 1/4″ brass. Our completed cases are supplied with 1/8″ glass and the wood on our completed cases is hand rubbed with a fine oil finish . On special order and at additional cost, other woods, finishes, and/or plexiglass is available.

Bluejacket’s case-kits are offered to offset the crating, shipping, and insurance costs associated with completed cases. They include all wood, hardware, and assembly instructions. All wood supplied is finish sanded, but is not finished. Case-kit bases are routed to accept 1/8” glass. Please note that glass is not supplied.

Typically, our case-kit customers take the kit and instructions to a local glazier who can easily supply the appropriate glass and assemble the case.

The cost of a case-kit is easily determined. Add together the length + width + height of the desired interior dimension case size. This sum is termed the “unit inches”. The cost of a case-kit with brass frames is $4.75 x the number of unit inches (catalog Item #C1436, minimum charge $300). With cherry frames, the cost is $5.95 x the number of unit inches (catalog Item #C1435, minimum charge $450). While it is highly subjective, we normally suggest that the size of a case should be 4″ longer than the total length of the model, 3″ wider than the total width, and 2″ taller than the total height (including pedestals or cradle). The size of the case is an aesthetic judgement and is ultimately the decision of the model owner. That is why Bluejacket produces cases in your specified size.

Please note that all sizes discussed and specified are interior dimensions, whether stated or not. Because our cases and case-kits are custom manufactured, please allow ten weeks for delivery and require payment at time of order.
